Analysis by country of the UK by Brandon Lin
The United Kingdom did not have as much aggressive measures when it came to policies and lockdowns.
They were much more delayed in their response and initiated a lockdown much later compared to other countries. The reason for this delayed response was because the government was afraid that the public would not cooperate with them and would ignore the government policies.
Before the lockdown, they asked citizens arriving from certain areas that were greatly affected by COVID-19 to self isolate if they ever developed symptoms. The time of self isolation varied depending on one’s health as well as age. A hotel was booked out near an airport to encourage people to self isolate but that measure was not forced upon them, it just gave them an option to.
Testing for the coronavirus was very slow and they were unable to test at a reasonable pace, which affected many healthcare workers as they were unable to be tested for the virus. The lockdown was not initiated until much later and by the time they did, the number of cases had risen greatly and many areas of the United Kingdom were affected. There are not many strict measures or policies other than the lockdown and it seems that the government has not imposed fines or penalties for disobeying the lockdown.
