Analysis by Country of Iran by Brandon Lin
Amongst many of the countries mentioned, Iran was the least aggressive in terms of attempting to quell the virus’s spread.
As the number of cases began to rise in Iran, many of its supplies were beginning to run low and in this situation, the US attempted to lend help to Iran. However, Iran rejected its effort to help because they believed that the US was behind the outbreak of the virus. The government did not issue any lockdown ahead of the holidays and travel was not banned or monitored. There were many sources indicating that there was traffic on the streets of Iran amidst the coronavirus outbreak.
They began to slowly lockdown the country by closing all stores, not including grocery stores and pharmacies. Furthermore, they closed schools and banned religious gatherings, but there were no strict policies or measures that were enforced and many people still had the freedom to do what they wanted. However, to combat the economic crisis going on because of the virus, the government decided to postpone health insurance, tax, and utility bill payments for the next three months. As the number of cases began to rise, field hospitals were built in order to house more patients and more medical supplies were sent from the WHO.
The government is doing their best to combat this virus however many citizens in Iran are not complying to the quarantine policies, making it hard for the government to contain many people.
