Who are the CDC and WHO?

Two of the most important organizations, instrumental in the SARS-CoV-2 global crisis.

Amidst the pandemic, the CDC and WHO have been integral members in controlling the spread of the virus domestically and internationally.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

... is the leading national public health institute in the US which is focused on controlling the introduction and spread of diseases, providing consultation to other agencies and nations, environmental health, and tackling major health problems in America.

During epidemics, they play an extremely important role in providing specific numbers and data (such as case numbers) surrounding the epidemic’s status. They also provide commentary on the likely course of outbreaks and delegate the best known strategies for disease containment including giving directions/protocols on treatments and methods of testing cases.

On the other hand, the WHO (World Health Organization)

operates on an international scale and is a part of the United Nations’ specialized agencies.

The agency is responsible for international public health/healthcare, including aspects such as monitoring health risks, coordinating responses to health emergencies, and providing technical assistance to countries. During health emergencies (such as this pandemic), the WHO helps support the development of necessary tools, supports the delivery of essential health services, and plays a major role in the early on detection and response to emerging diseases.
